Published Book: Quiet Underpinnings from Roadside Press

My latest poetry collection, “Quiet Underpinnings,” was written over three years and based on the 72 microseasons in Japanese history. Though the weather is not exactly the same in the US as in Japan, I did find many correlations of season. Each poem was written strictly within its 5 day season and if not, I had to wait until the next year at the same time to write it which is why it took three years. Sometimes inspiration just isn’t there when you go looking for it.

This book was edited and published by the great Michele McDannold on her ever growing press, Roadside Press that houses an impressive (so far) 65 titles with a great array of poets and fiction writers who put their souls on the page. It’s hard to find a bad book in the bunch.

There have been a number of wonderful reviews of “Quiet Underpinnings” that are on The Literary Underground and for the first time in my writing career, I feel immeasurably seen. You can read a brilliant review by the one and only Richard Modiano or jump into Karl Koweski’s Polish Hammer column. The Toledo poets, Kerry Trautman and Pella Felton, also showed up to review this book with words that touched my heart and you can read those on the back of the book so run over to the Magical Jeep and get a copy.

I would really love to than Anastasiya Fluegel for the gorgeous cover for my book. I normally do my own covers but this book called for something outside of my control which is at the core of nature and thus the core of this book. She read my poems and created this delicate and beautiful cover and I am forever grateful.

I have not figured out how to embed videos in this darn thing yet so you will have to settle for a few links to my FB to hear a few sample poems from the book “Quiet Underpinnings”:

“Never Get Old”

“Quiet Optimism”

“The Creek”

“Between the Lines We Find a Glimpse of Truth”

And lastly, you can also find my book on the evil overload’s den aka Amazon

As always, thank you for supporting small press and local artists. These are the people keeping hope alive and recording the everyday history of life. Be kind to each other. Laugh. Enjoy this life you are living even in the worst of times. Hug your friends, drink coffee, and eat pizza. It’s the best life. Thank you for reading.
